Stone – Terrazzo
Terrazzo is the most popular artificial stone. The slabs consist of a cement base and a top layer that displays densely set marble or granite grains, generally of the same size and hardness, embedded in cement. Mineral or iron oxide dyes are used for colouring. White cement is used for light terrazzo.
Terrazzo can be ground or polished after it has set. It is dense and firm and has a high water impermeability. Terrazzo is resistant to alkalis and solvents, but may be very sensitive to acids (e.g. cola, fruit juices, vinegar cleaner).
